May 23, 2026: The Inside Passage

The Inside Passage is the coastal network of islands and fjords along the Pacific Northwest coast. We anticipate calm waters, beautiful scenery, and iconic wildlife viewing.

“Cake” Me Away in the restaurant had a long wait but the cakes definitely looked better than they tasted.

So on our final day at sea our onboard naturalist said that we are likely to see porpoises, orcas and other wildlife. NOPE!! How disappointing!

However, the climate was just right for an evening promenade around the ship!

These barstools are unique.

During the night, we lost an hour. Amy and I bought day spa packages to take steam baths, ceramic heating lounge chairs, and a hydro pool which is a gigantic whirlpool which submerged lounge chairs. I am pretty sore from the various activities so I am looking forward to the special treatment.

Baked Alaska, of course!
We never did see any sealife and nightfall stopped our pursuit. Neither Amy nor I have ever won at Five Crowns Solitaire but we were victorious and ecstatic!!! We needed to mark this important milestone with a photo!! What a great punctuation to a fun trip together!

Final thoughts on Alaska

Alaska is big but this picture puts it in perspective. I used to think of a generic Alaskan. However, would a person in Georgia have a lot in common with a person in Wisconsin?
Here is another way to look at it from the perspective of “the lower 48”.
One always gets a unique view in the air: a frozen in the north end with ice and a smaller water output on the south with no ice.
Glaciers as far as the eye can see.

Every day in Alaska was different than the day before. Change is the only constant and adaptability is expected.

With retreating or accumulating glaciers, changing tree lines, shifting coastlines, and extreme seasonal swings, the landscape is in a constant state of flux. It is a raw, dynamic environment where nature and people have always needed to adapt.

Amy was a great travel buddy. She likely had to adapt to me as her roommate. We created many cherished memories in our 49th state.
