February 16, 2026: Happy 41st Wedding Anniversary

We had to get off the ship at 7:15am back in the Dominican Republic at the La Romana port. Rob put his suitcase out the night before. They told me to just carry my small bag, otherwise, it would be squashed.

We spent the entire day in transit. Cruise Ship to Bus to Flight to Hotel Transport to Hotel. We are back on home soil.

Miami Airport

This is a very busy airport. We walked and walked and walked. We were sure to get our steps in.
This was a cool play place for little ones. My grandchildren would love it … if we could ever find it again.

Here are some funny, clever ads from the National Park Service.

Funny.
(There was a lady standing in front of the words on the left so when I took her out, you can’t read that this is the Dry Tortugas!)

Here are our final thoughts about our cruise:

  • Tattoos don’t age well.
  • In reality, a cruise ship is actually a traveling Golden Coral.
  • Belly button rings aren’t sexy after you’ve had children.
  • Excursions are never guaranteed.
  • Most ports of call aren’t particularly scenic. One needs to travel inland. Help the local economy.
  • There are a LOT of islands in the Caribbean with different histories.
  • Lifeguards on cruises are only needed to assist people getting in and out of the hot tubs.
  • LOUD music is everywhere. In 20 years, everyone will be hard of hearing … young AND old!!
  • It is a Latin American custom to clap upon landing. I will adopt this practice.
Lifeguard on duty.

This is last season of cruising with the Norwegian Sky. The ship has been sold to a cruise company in India. The final voyage will be in August.

Rob LOVES maps. This one was especially interesting as we wondered how many of these world landmarks that we have seen or will see. * means Rob has seen it.

  • The Great Buddha, Bihar, India
  • *St. Basil’s Cathedral, Moscow, Russia
  • Chichen Itza, Yucatán, Mexico
  • Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai, China
  • Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • *Big Ben, London, England
  • *The Great Pyramids, Giza, Egypt
  • *Taj Mahal, Agra, India
  • *Eiffel Tower, Paris, France
  • *Leaning Tower of Pisa, Pisa, Italy
  • *Coliseum, Rome, Italy
  • *Statue of Liberty, New York City, USA
  • Traditional Chinese Building, China
  • *Hagia Sofia, Istanbul, Turkey
  • *Monument Valley, Arizona&Utah Border, USA
  • Burj Al Arab, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Rob told me 41 years ago that he was going to take me to see the world. I believed him.

The world awaits!!

Happy anniversary, Brenda and Rob! This was a great post. Love the National Parks ads. Of course, your musings are also magnificent.
