Tuesday, March 5, 2024: Day 393: Paradise Lost

Today we leave paradise.

We see many Polynesians with tattoos. It made me wonder if there is social and cultural pressure to get a tattoo.

Ironically, it is Day 393 of our trip, and our room number is 393 … time to go home. This means that our year of travel has come to an end … although we had a COVID break for a few years. This is the bookend to a yearlong dream of traveling the world.

We got to the unconditioned airport early. Why, we wonder? Everyone is sweating and miserable. Rob is fanning himself and undoes his shirt. We are used to humidity, but this is even more humid than Virginia.

The airplane was air conditioned. Ahhh!! But soon I was thirsty, my lips were dry, and my hair was sticking up due to static.

We arrived in LAX without much sleep. Despite a quick process of getting our bags and going through Global Entry, and Security, it took us 1½ hours to get ourselves to our next gate.

We are both pretty tired and miffed that there are no Priority Pass lounges in LAX. I will be writing a strongly worded letter. How can Colorado Springs have a Priority Pass Lounge and not Los Angeles?!?!?!?

Once we got to Dallas, there was a zero gravity massage waiting for us … plus a one hour jet lag nap in quiet Minute Suites, and a small meal in the lounge.
I purchased a new neck pillow. It was not very comfortable…can you tell?
It’s good to be home. Thanks for traveling on this adventure with us.

Congrats on an incredible accomplishment!!! You two had a dream, made a plan, modified the plan, and saw it to the end. It’s been a pleasure seeing it through your eyes and your words as you traversed the globe. The photos, the history lessons and your personal stories (many with your humorous insights) were all greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking us along. Glad you are Home Sweet Home.
