Prior to getting on the bus leaving Lake Tepakō, Rob encouraged me to sit on the left side to get the best views. The only seats left were at the back of the bus so I couldn’t be selective.
Our first impression was that Queenstown was situated on difficult to maneuver hills especially with roller bags. The next observation was that they had major traffic problems with too many cars and too few lanes. Lastly, and we are part of the problem, there are too many tourists. All the accommodations said NO VACANCY although we saw one that said ON VACANCY!!
Sadly, we weren’t able to get lunch in Lake Tekapō before we left, and our bus arrived in Queenstown at dinner. Saturday night in the center city is the place to be.
We had scoped out a popular pizza place called Fat Badgers. We ordered a large!!! We noticed that locals eat French Fries with their pizza. It’s a heart stopper, but probably no worse than with an American cheese burger!!Rob learned that a chin has a use for more than putting on pillowcases. Many young people come here for adventure. There is kayaking, mountaineering, hang gliding, sky diving, jet boating, bungee jumping, etc. Elderly travelers view it as a stepping stone to see the world famous sounds. I think that we are part of the latter group.
