February 15, 2023 – Day 13 – Pushkar

Today we traveled to the Hindu pilgrimage site of Pushkar. It has a holy lake ringed by stone ghats, or steps, that lead into its sacred waters. Most of the temples and ghats in Pushkar are from the 18th century and later, because many temples were destroyed during Muslim conquests in the area. Subsequently, the destroyed temples were rebuilt.

Pushkar has a vibrant market district.

We enjoyed an orientation walk along the spectacular lakefront to the 14th-century Brahma Temple.

These steps lead to a bathing ghat at Pushkar Lake. The lake has 52 ghats.

Pushkar Lake also is surrounded by about 400 blue temples, some shown in this photo from the India Times. The temples are colored blue because that color is believed to be sacred and associated with Brahma, the creator in Hindu cosmology

We had a drink at a cafe waiting for the sunset.

Sunset has arrived.

This is Brahma Temple after dark.

We spent the night at Camp Land’s End in Doongariya Khurs village. The camp has 13 cottages with thatched roofs.

A nice setting for our dinner.
