May 15, 2026: Beautiful Day in Denali

Today was a day to hike in Denali. Very few trails are passable but we were determined. June is spring, July is summer, August is fall and the rest is winter.

Duly noted. We talk loud, sing songs and have our bear spray in hand.
We made it to Horseshoe Lake.
Then we took a park bus to the trailhead for Mountain Vista Loop. We hiked in until the snow got too high and slippery even with walking poles. Amy went pretty far in her waterproof hiking boots.
As we were leaving the trail, we saw THIS sign. We weren’t sure how current it was…but we are leaving anyway. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
The next hike attempt was catching a short bus to Savage Point.
Nope!!!
So we will settle for a Savage Point selfie!!
Things are seasonably melting! So many gigantic ice cubes are floating down the mountain.

The tree line is climbing up since the temperature is increasing. It used to be at 2,500 ft. but now is 3,000 ft. Also, there are more avalanches, rock slides, and permafrost cracks.
