May 13, 2026: Seward

Alaska is HUGE. It is 2½ times larger than the size of Texas, and has the same number of roads that Rhode Island does.

How close is Alaska to Russia?

The two Diomede islands are only 2.4 miles apart. Because the International Date Line runs right between them, there is a 21-hour time difference. This has earned them the nicknames “Tomorrow Island” (Russia) and “Yesterday Island” (USA).

From mainland to mainland, the narrowest distance between the actual continents of North America (Alaska) and Asia (Siberia) is approximately 55 miles.

There are so many photo opps on our drive from Homer to Seward. We heard that the train ride from Anchorage to Seward was stunning. Next time!

Our main goal is to visit the Alaska Sealife Center.
