Hostel culture is interesting and keeps one young. People are looking for community and validation. I am the oldest one here and likely viewed as an oddity.
Here was my favorite quote, “It’s ok, it’s my mom’s first time on earth.” š
Mother’s Day was so special because I was able to be with one of my children. Amy says that she is the representative this year. What a treat!
A trolley tour of Anchorage was packed with fellow travelers and guided by Prince. One stop was Earthquake Park where on Good Friday, March 27, 1964 at 5:36pm, the Pacific Plate collided with the North America plate. Amy is straddling the fault line. The ground just collapsed. Look closely at our trolley guide.A fun mother’s Day Brunch at Snow City Cafe.It looks like we weren’t the only celebrants here. Her extra long selfie stick could double as limbo for waiters.Back at the hostel, I took a one hour Float in a pod with Epsom salt. A Jacuzzi jet bounced me around like a pinball machine and it sounded like someone was going to the bathroom.
I didn’t find it that relaxing. It turns out that they forgot to turn off the pump…but my skin was so soft!!
Amy finished off my special day by indulging me in one of my favorite card games, Five Crowns. It was close but I won!
What a great day!

Have you read This Is Chance!: The Shaking of an All-American City, a Voice That Held It Together by Jon Mooallem? Itās a fascinating account of the 1964 earthquake.
