January 26, 2026: Off to San Juan, Puerto Rico… Maybe

We are on the road again just in time to escape this cold snowy weather. Our travel schedule was rearranged for a very early flight due to the massive snow storm. We had to “wake up” at 2:30am. I never did fall asleep.

Rob scheduled an Uber to pick us up at 3:30am. Not too many Ubers out there were looking for fares so this was a smart move.

We boarded the plane from Norfolk to Miami at 5:30am without any problems. The flight was a little bumpy but not scary or unexpected. Because of the flight change, Rob and I didn’t get to sit together. We now had middle seats so it was hard to sleep. Also, the guy with the window seat kept the window open while the rest of the interior of the plane was dark and more conducive for sleeping. Maybe he is afraid of the dark!!

There was a young Hispanic lady from Honduras on the other side of our row, and she and I attempted to communicate. I tried my best to translate the words that the pilot was saying. I learned that a picture is worth 1,000 words. It’s the universal language.

Now the flight from Miami to San Juan is a different story. Five delays and gate changes, large crowds of canceled flights, expensive airport food, and no quiet place to rest our weary heads.

Rob is trying to get some shut eye amidst the chaos.

We are meeting our daughter Amy in San Juan. She was inspired to write a travel blog after reading our blog. We thought that it would be fun to write parallel blogs as our shared experiences will emphasize different things.

In the meantime, she met a Colombian family that is taking her all over the island while we struggle to arrive in Puerto Rico. She is having a WAY different and better day than we are!!

We are eager to meet up with her … hopefully today.

There was a long line of people waiting to change their flights.
These people boarded the plane in Norfolk with us. They were headed to the Dominican Republic. Their flight was canceled. So they booked a flight back to Norfolk, and then it was cancelled. No rental cars are available, and all nearby hotels are booked … so it can always be worse!!

Let’s hope that this isn’t a harbinger of our extended trip.

We were thrilled to arrive in Puerto Rico at 1:30am. It isn’t so Bad, Bunny!

I am excited to see him perform at the Super Bowl.

So glad you and Rob are on the move again Brenda! Will you be sharing your daughter‘s blog? Love your can-do spirit… Even when everything seems to be falling apart in the plan. Look forward to reading about your adventures.
