June 12, 2025: Bulgarian Haircut

After an amazing breakfast which included two types of caviar, we went to Zeus to get a proper Bulgarian haircut. The best and most memorable haircut that Rob ever received was in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, another Balkan country. I told Rob that he needs to get a good haircut before we leave the Balkans in a few days.

The cut is short on the side and tapered on the top.
Rob has attracted an observer.
What’s this? An eyebrow wax? This is a first for Rob.
And now the bandaid-type quick pull!!
What about the nose and ear hairs??

Shampooing at the end makes sense to get rid of all the short cuttings.
Time for a blow dry on the hair that’s left!
Style with a little bit of product, another first for Rob.
Yuri and his masterpiece
Rob is ready to explore Varna, Balkan style.
Rob needed to get a drink after that experience. He is able to smell the sea air much better now!!
We walked through the Sea Garden that parallels the Black Sea.

The large Orthodox temple called Dormation of the Mother of God Cathedral was built soon after Bulgaria was liberated from the Ottoman yoke. This famous landmark is located in the center of Varna.

The dome features Jesus Christ the Pantocrator, the title of Christ represented as the ruler of the universe, especially in Byzantine church decorations.
Ruins of the Episcopal Basilica of Odessos (Varna) show at least four bacilicas were built on top of each other in the same place after possible earthquakes and raids. This church was a center of Christianity and existed for around 200 years.
It is always good to learn how to say a few words and phrases when in another country. Bulgarian is not easy and impossible if written in Cyrillic since you can’t sound it out. I used White Out on one phrase. People shouldn’t use this in any language
Where are we headed? Go West!!!
