May 28, 2025: Storm the Castle

Prizren Castle, which overlooks the city, was the goal today. There are two ways to get there. The short, but hard way, OR the long, leisurely two-hour hike. We opted for the short way up and the long way back. In hindsight, the easy way both ways would have been best!!

I can’t imagine that anyone could reach the castle either way to try to overcome it. Just getting to the top was an accomplishment, let alone having soldiers shooting at me. I have a hard time understanding how it was built or how they brought supplies here.

Once inside, the castle has secret tunnels to reach the Prizren River in case of a siege. What wasn’t I told about the secret tunnel?

The gentle hiking trail down was pleasant. We didn’t take any pictures of the steep cobblestone road up to the castle for comparison. We were too busy trying not to fall down.
We came across this sleeping dog. I looked at the poster and it was a picture of this dog …with puppies.

I translated the poster and here is what is said:

My name is Mandalina. My friends call me Lina. I am a proud mother of 4 babies. Can you help me find a name for them? =) To stay in touch and for name suggestions, please use Instagram or Tiktok and search for amazingdoghaven

You can sit on the bench and spend time with me. I am a natural and I can probably be taught to be addressed. When I bark, don’t be afraid. This is to keep other dogs away from my territory because I want my babies to be safe. The other dogs help me with this and I have a strong will as well.

Sure enough, her puppies were in this little cave fast asleep.
Once back in the Old Town, we stumbled upon a first grade graduation.
The girls wore pink tutus and the boys pink bowties and cumberbunds. Each student was a letter in the alphabet. Some had to double up since there are so many letters!!

Cotton Candy Machine

In carrying on with the pink theme, an automatic cotton candy machine was our next stop.

We opted for a flower shape, and the machine sculpted it accordingly. The taste was excellent. I think that we might see these in the USA in the future.
