April 28, 2025: Transitioning

Today is kind of a lost day as we lose hours in our transatlantic flight and start to embrace a new culture (and time zone) in Europe.

I love to see the different decor in world airports. This ceiling can be seen in Atlanta.

Could this be her emotional support marijuana?

My children are named Julie, Amy, Donna and Elle. JADE club is a real thing!!

We were told that there are two specific times to get pastries…in the mornings at your favorite cafe and at 4:00 when all the school children are coming home. We were “schooled” with chocolate and pistachio eclairs. They are wrapped in the prettiest paper.

This specialty donut shop advertises Texas Donuts among other sweets. Note the size of the pink donut…obviously a fan favorite.

The Church of St. Eustache was our “first impression rose”! We are not in Kansas anymore.

This church is the second largest church in Paris behind Notre Dame and was built between 1532 and 1633.

We dined at Bouillon Chartier Grands Boulevards where we were told it would be very busy and you may have to wait in queued up lines.  We got right in and they sat us at the same table as other diners. This is certainly unique to Americans who are used to their own tables.

We were seated with Juan and Nyla from Chicago who were celebrating their seventh wedding anniversary. They asked how long we had been married. I said 41 (but it was really 40 as Rob corrected me later). They were amazed since they had never met a couple married for that long!!

On the other side of us was a New Yorker and a man from Mexico City. They were seated together and did not know each other either. Personal space is not a thing here!!

Dining at Bouillon was a grand experience. The original concept was to provide low cost restaurants for workers in the 19th century. Chartier Bothers was established in 1896 and continues to “offer a decent meal at a modest price” which now includes tourists!! They serve traditional, simple, local French cuisine.

Our cheerful waiter made recommendations by pulling off a dish from someone else’s table to show us…a picture is worth a thousand words!!

The signature look of the army of waiters is a white apron with a black vest. The waiters write your order on the paper tablecloth as well as calculate your final bill.

Time to walk off dinner and explore. Around every corner, there are stores throughout the city that offer vintage posters, postcards, stamps and leather bound antique books.

Paris fashion is unique. Somehow it works. She completes the ensemble with a dog!
