We go to an area called Bo-Kaap which is where many colored people live and, by law, will continue to live by passing down their homes to their families. They have a distinction of black vs. colored. Many colored refer to themselves as Cape Malay as many descend from slaves brought here from Malaysia.
Colored people living in colored homes!!The Cape Malay or colored have a very proud heritage especially in the arts.
Samosa is a savory-filled fried pastry that is present at all family gatherings. We were able to sample one in Bo-Kaap. YUM!
District 6 has a sad history which has been preserved in a church turned museum. The government bulldozed their homes, relocated them, and kept the land. Other communities suffered a similar fate.Fortunately, we don’t have to hunt for our food, but we do have to hunt for a good restaurant. We had a ringside view of all the action which included a lot of yelling!!While channel surfing we found a channel called Russia Today. Our curiosity was piqued to learn what Russians were being told. This is what we saw…BLOCKED!
