Thursday, June 13: Day 52 – Wengen

Goodbye, Guggisberg. We’re headed 30 miles east to Wengen. In Switzerland it can take a long time to travel short distances – bus to Schwarzenburg, then four trains to Bern, Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, and finally Wengen. About 3 hours total travel time.

The scenery along the way was spectacular!

Our Hotel Berghaus in Wengen just opened for the summer season a couple of days ago. The receptionist asked us where we came from. We said, “Guggisberg.” She said that not many tourists come here from there.

The view from our balcony is exquisite.

We had walked past a small church just before our hotel. They have a happy hour in 45 minutes. Free food! Maybe that will help the slight altitude sickness that we feel. The pastor’s wife was nice. We will go back on Sunday.

Our day ends at a concert of alphorn, yodeling, and dancing.
