Our merry band of vagabonds ended up at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. It was VERY fancy and is one of the venues used for the Presidential inaugural balls. We were required to valet park.$$$
Can you find Stewart in the lobby?
The room was down three long stretches of hallways. Stewart would turn the corner anticipating our room only to find yet another hallway. There was a lot of huffing and puffing. Stewart was so tired that he went right to sleep. Do you see me in the picture?
The next day, we toured the Hillwood Museum in D.C. which was owned by the extravagant American socialite Marjorie Merriweather Post. Think Grapenuts and Jello. She owned three homes; each employing a large residential staff AND a travelling staff. She collected fine art mostly from Russia and France…and rooms were built just to accommodate numerous china patterns. As I looked at this it reminded me of the show, Hoarders. How many plates do you need? The only difference was that her “collections” were beautifully organized.
Next I wondered if all of these items sparked joy, Marie Kondo style. It looked like she was looking for SOMETHING or SOMEONE to spark joy.
We stayed fairly long to see a collection of 18th century perfume bottles. Rob told me that drive time was 6 hours and 11 minutes. However, as we headed for home, Rob sheepishly announced that he had his map set on walking and had misread 6 days and 11 hours. It is actually 8 hours and 45 minutes. Yikes!! Midnight riders!!
