Today the three of us ventured out from Bukhara to see a couple of the important historic sites just outside of the city. Today is much nicer – high of 99º F instead of yesterday’s 106º F.

Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa also known as the “Palace Like the Stars and the Moon,” was a country residence of the Emir of Bukhara, built in the late 19th century. Currently, it houses a museum of decorative and applied arts.
Here are some beautiful interior views.

Elle posed with this friendly group of girls.

Chor-Bakr is a memorial complex in the village of Sumitan about 3 miles from Bukhara, built over the burial place of Abu-Bakr-Said, who died 970 A.D. He was one of the four Abu-Bakrs, descendants of Muhammad who succeeded him. The complex includes the necropolis of family tombs, and courtyards enclosed with walls.
As always, Mirzah got Elle involved hands-on with fun activities.
Today Elle had her eyebrows painted with a black spice.
We went into a shop where the owner sewed and embroidered tablecloths and garments. She showed Elle a few techniques.
Later we enjoyed rolled ice cream. Here’s how it’s made (2 minutes).
